OIL PRICES: WHAT INVESTORS SHOULD KNOW NOW?

Singapore stocks
Dear readers, as the oil prices move higher and higher, I could not help but think of one stock sector: airline stocks. Why? Well, if oil prices go up then it will mean an increase in cost to airlines. Thus, investors vested in airline stocks need to take note on how increasing oil prices mean to airlines stocks.

TOM K ANSWERS TWO QUESTIONS ON STOCKS

Singapore stocks
Dear readers, there were two comments by readers on SSI's Facebook Page which I thought I will reply via a post here as this could benefit more readers. First, in response to an earlier post, a reader suggested that one could buy a diversified Reit like Lions Phillip Reit to even diversify further the risks afforded by a single Reit. While this thinking is laudable, I will think that this will also make returns smaller as compared to a focused approach on one Reit. Also, if the risks are such that they affect Reits as a whole like rising interest rates, then similarly the brunt on a diversified Reit will be effected.

ONE WAY TO PROFIT FROM RISING OIL PRICES WHILE THE RALLY IS ON!

Singapore stocks
Dear readers, if you have noticed, oil prices have rebounded and is trending up. But if you take a look at whether this positive development has cascaded to oil-related and energy stocks to head up price-wise; the result would be a mixed picture. Not all energy stocks related to oil have benefited from the oil rally; only some did. The reason is simple: many of these oil stocks were highly leveraged and had or have high debts even till now. Hence even if the oil industry outlook bodes well, the fundamentals of some of these oil stocks would serve as deterrent for investors.

[TRUMP PULLS OUT OF IRAN NUCLEAR AGREEMENT]STOCKS IN FOCUS: KEPPEL CORP, SEMBCORP MARINE, SEMBCORP INDUSTRIES

KEPPEL CORP STOCK, SEMBCORP MARINE STOCK, SEMBCORP INDUSTRIES STOCK
Dear readers, US President Donald Trump announced at 2pm 8 May 2018 (US time) while many of us were asleep that US would pull out of the Iran nuclear agreement and to impose “powerful” economic sanctions on Teheran. Oil prices did not rally after Trump’s announcement though there was some price volatility in oil prices before the announcement. Analysts thought that pretty much, the above move has already been earlier factored in the recent higher oil prices by traders and more importantly, Iranian oil production would unlikely be impacted by US pulling out of the agreement unless Donald Trump can convince other allies to reimpose sanctions.

WHY THESE WILL STILL BE THE TWO GROUP OF FACTORS INVESTORS NEED TO LOOK OUT?

Singapore stocks
Dear readers, I believe you would agree with me that compared to 2017, the current year to date has been rather dynamic for stocks. While it seems to be a raft of factors, I will attribute them to just two groups of factors. And it is none other than US and China.

HOW TO INVEST IN THE STOCKS MARKETS NOW?

Singapore stocks
In a recent post, I have shared with readers that based on the technical chart of the STI ETF, it is a bearish view for Singapore stocks. Fundamentally, there are also not many positive catalysts; instead we have more volatilities in the form of trade tensions and geo-political developments.

THREE POSSIBLE NOTEWORTHY SMALL-CAP STOCKS FOR YEAR 2018

Singapore Stocks 2018
Dear readers, we are into the start of Year 2018. Time will progress fast and before we know it, we would be looking at the names of the top gainers for Year 2018. In my belief, and as backed by previous years’ statistics, the top gainers in any year would always tend to be the small-cap stocks. While part of the winning equation for small-cap stock gainers would reside on good fundamentals and results, the other would have to lie on the mathematics of having a small price as a base (hence any gain would be large in percentage).

[FINAL YEAR 2017 POST] TOM K: TWO WORD FOR INVESTING IN 2018

Singapore stocks 2018
Dear readers, finally we come to the last day of Year 2017. We will be ushering in Year 2018 at the stroke of midnight later and as the usual saying goes: “How time flies”. I am not sure whether you like time to quickly progress but for myself, I would wish for time to slow down a little. Yes, as a child, I would like time to progress a little bit fast since exams and curriculum would conclude earlier and holidays would set in faster. But fast forward to today, as a middle-aged man who, like many, spend most of my waking hours at work, I would wish for more time to spend with families, spend on my personal interests and as well as to relax a little. I have to admit that after every work day, I may not be in the best state to spend time with my family as inevitably, I am tired. But I believe what matters most is to give your efforts and try.

RHB’S 12 STOCK PICKS FOR YEAR 2018

RHB stocks recommendations
Dear readers, RHB has released its stocks picks for Year 2018. According to RHB, there are 12 stocks which investors could consider for Year 2018. The theme behind RHB’s recommended stocks is based on selective stocks selection. Hence when I saw the RHB’s list of recommended stocks, it is really fresh air for me as based on what I have been sharing so far on the recommended Singapore stocks here , many stocks analysts tend to recommend only blue-chip and STI constituent stocks; thus we keep on seeing the names of similar blue-chip stocks being tossed around. But RHB’s list here is really selective and here without further ado, are RHB’s recommended stocks:

1) APAC Realty

2) Ascendas Reit

3) Avi-Tech Electronics

4) Dairy Farm

5) Food Empire Holdings

6) HRNetGroup
