Dear readers, as we are resting in our cozy homes after a hard day of work, let us not forget the thousands of Nepalese left homeless by the massive earthquakes now living in the open, left hungry and without proper sanitation. Let us also not forget the many victims of the earthquake too. Here is how all Singaporeans can help, as extracted from Redcross Singapore website:

What Tom K says of this stock?

On the morning of 28 Apr 2015, I blogged about Ying Li International stock (you can read the post here). On 27 Apr 2015, Ying Li closed at $0.275 and I told readers that the next resistance to look out for this stock was $0.285 with the previous resistance of $0.26 broken by Ying Li stock then. I was right, Ying Li international stock reached a high intra-day peak of $0.285 on the very same day of my post (28 Apr 2015) and today it closed at $0.255, below the previous resistance of $0.26; it seems that $0.26 resistance to Ying Li international stock is rather strong.

But is Investing really that easy?

With my first investment success, I invested and traded in more stocks, not to delude myself and readers, I profited in some positions while not profiting in others; but I am starting to see my overall profits improve as I educate myself more in both financial and technical analysis, reading of financial articles and schooling myself in the whole spectrum of financial education. I count Robert T. Kiyosaki as one of my favorite financial authors.

The following is a continuation of the sharing of my financial journey. You can read on Part One & Part Two in the blog’s archives.

An Even Greater Financial Awakening

Even though I had now a trading account, it remained pretty much a “dormant” account. It was years after the set-up of the trading account that I experienced the impetus to learn investing and to take investing action ……..

This stock has advanced 38% since March 2015, will it still advance?

Ying Li International stock reached a low of $0.20 and yesterday, the stock closed at $0.275, a 38% increase in its stock price since. Will the stock price of this property company with property portfolios in Chong Qing, Beijing and Singapore continue to advance next?

The Financial Journey of Tom K …….. EXPOSED (Part 2)

The following is a continuation of the sharing of my financial journey. You can read on Part One in the blog’s archives.

Financial Awakening: My First Investment

As soon as I stepped into society to start work, the “lust” of earning more monies soon overwhelmed me so much so that I bought my first investments in a fund from a well-known insurance company, without doing much research, from an auntie simply based on trust. The fund seems great as it had good publicity in the newspapers when it was introduced. I gave my first “investment capital” via a cheque of $8,000 to the auntie. A year later, the financial crisis struck and the rest, they say is history. I was sad to see my first investments go down below my cost as the financial crisis unfolded. Not being able to stand the emotion of holding the “soured investments”, I sold the investments and received back only $3,500 of my capital. This first investment lesson lays the seeds of my investor education: that one should take charge and be responsible for one’s own monies, and not let others do it for you. Do not entrust your monies to others based on simply trust. My first insurance policies which I have gotten once I started work were beneficial though and I add on to this slew of policies with others as my financial needs evolve with the different stations of my life.

Should Singapore investors buy Singapore stocks now?

I was looking at some good Singapore counters and feel quite tempted to buy these Singapore stocks, offering good dividend yields and trading at good bargains now. However, I was reminded of the ongoing Greek finance saga and from what I have read on the internet, the Greek finance saga could shape the global stock markets in a way which would remind all investors of the same saga some years back; only that now, Greeks have a new government which has a different stance towards the EU bailout and the debt negotiations.

The Financial Journey of Tom K …….. EXPOSED (Part 1)

As I have promised readers, I will share my financial journey with you for you to better understand my financial motivations as an investor and motivations of learning and sharing with all of you as a blogger. I also hope that through this sharing of my financial journey, you have a better understanding of who I am as a person and the objectives of Singapore Stocks Investing blog towards creating value to you. And here the narration of my financial journey goes, so sit back, relax and have a bag of popcorn with you:

Seeds of my Financial Education

I am born into a middle-class family. My father is a hardworking person who is capable enough to ensure his three children complete their university education through his average salary, his rigorous savings and continuous drive to upgrade his skills. My mother is a dedicated full-time homemaker who dedicates her life to the care of my siblings and I and her grandchildren. Kudos to my parents for giving me a solid financial education, in fact the most important pillar of all by stressing the importance of savings. Though we do not talk much about monies, through deeds, my parents personalize the importance of savings and they are the first teachers of my financial education. Till today, I remain largely a frugal person and have benefited much from their financial education in savings.

Dear All, throughout my blogging experience here on Singapore Stocks Investing, I have shared with readers many of the financial resources which I have benefitted from.

This Chinese Financial Word has Great Meaning

Some time ago, I heard a passer-by utter a mandarin financial phrase which I have not really heard for quite some time. The phrase is none other than the simple phrase of money in mandarin. Nope, the phrase is not “qian” but it is “jin qian” (perhaps that is why at this stage, you would recognize with me that this phrase is seldom heard of now). So what’s the big deal of this phrase?

Why I hate Robert T Kiyosaki?

Robert T Kiyosaki is a multi-millionaire and an international best-selling author. Robert’s book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” has become a classic for financial education. If you think this book already sounds like a cliché and probably seems obsolete in the financial world today, I encourage you to read his other later titles. I have bought and read many of Robert’s books (mostly bought them at low prices at those book expo sales) and have benefited from his teachings so much so that I have regarded Robert as an author who has shaped some of my thinking towards monies and investments.

Sharing of Singapore Financial Blogs

Here at Singapore Stocks Investing, Tom K believes that when it comes to investing among retail investors, generally, it is good to read about and learn from others’ investing experience; the key is to do so with a discerning mind as we are responsible for our own investing actions and how we manage our monies. This is really the rationale behind my sharing of other financial blogs here on the blog roll that readers see on the sidebar of Singapore Stocks Investing.

Should you invest in Singapore Stocks now? Tom K vs an Expert

The Singapore STI is currently at a high level. Should investors invest in Singapore stocks now? According to an expert, the Singapore stocks market is “cheap” trading at a P/E ratio of around 14, giving investors a dividend of 7% in general. The expert proceeded to reassure investors that rising interest rates should not worry investors as they only mean that the economy of the world is good.

Why sometime it is better to not attend AGMs?

It is AGMS season as I receive booklets, pamphlets, DVDs of annual reports and AGM letters of the companies which I have shareholdings in. Many financial advocates have recommended retail investors to attend AGMs as it is often the only platform to get “up, close and personal” with the management of the company to ask and clarify with them personally. With all the above benefits, why do I say that it is better to not attend AGMs sometime?

Are you a Trading Hero?

There is currently a competition organized by SGX in conjunction with TradeHero. Basically, investors would need to download the TradeHero app and trade with “virtual cash” and be awarded with prizes if they achieve a good trading record.

While I do not participate in the above myself and do not receive any commissions from what I am going to say next, I would think that for novice investors, the competition is a good platform to learn about investing. Talk is cheap; hindsight is also cheap when it comes to investing and the real benchmark, the real test of investing is really to put down one’s monies into the stock markets and reap what one sows based on what investing or trading abilities.

Let us learn from Warren Buffet

Warren Buffet is the world’s most successful and well-known investor and one of the richest men on earth. There are many people who would like to learn from Warren Buffet’s when it comes to investments. I have read many of his books and what I could say is that while I agree with him on some principles for investments, I have also “absorbed” other schools of investment thinking in my investment strategies so that they are well-placed for investing in the current stocks markets against the current global stock markets backdrop.

Most of us are motivated by making more monies and this motivation drives us into investing, learning how to invest better so as to maximize our investment returns. I know some of you investors are also aware that there is a “glass ceiling” to how much we could earn in our full-time professions and we are aware as well that “the sky is our limits” when it comes to investing and we are made of more quality stuff than what our bosses think, hence investing is our route towards greater wealth.

How best to spend your hard-earned dollars on meals?

Singapore prides itself on the many shopping centres around the island so much so that in many housing estates, there is at least one glitzy shopping mall in each of them. Whenever I am outside doing shopping or to be more exact, “window shopping”, I am always puzzled at how best to utilize my hard-earned monies towards filling my stomach for meals. These shopping centres are really beautiful and Singapore has earned many accolades for its range of appetizing food and cuisine, but somehow, I really feel that the standard of Singapore’s food served there has really declined.

ATTILAN GROUP STOCK: will you invest in it?

Will you invest in ATTILAN Group stock? Before you answer the question, let me share with you what “Attilan” is, if you are like me who do not know the meaning. Well, the city of Attilan is, according to a website, the home for the inhumans, who are a fictional race of superhumans which appears in various comic book series published by Marvel Comics. After learning about the name of “Attilan”, I feel awed by such a heroic name of a Singapore stock.

What Singapore Stocks I am looking at now?

I know that it has been some time since I blogged about the Singapore stocks which I am looking at. Well, though I understand that readers in general do welcome this type of posts from me as well as fellow finance bloggers, I think it would be useful to observe the Singapore stocks markets first before making an informed posts to readers; hence such posts about stocks which are on my “stock radar” will be on a regular, though not on a daily blog posting.

How to save some monies at home?

I use the air-conditioner regularly at home and when it comes to cleaning the air-conditioner, what I have always done is to just clean off the air-filters, thinking that my air-conditioner would be clean just by doing so. Hence when I manage to look at the maintenance guide of the air-conditioner more closely when I somehow got the time to see through the manual, naturally I decided to follow the cleaning steps of the air-con unit. What followed through was my cleaning of years of dust stuck in the air-conditioner via vacuum, tissue and brushing.

A Great bargain at a mere $3

Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple is indeed a brilliant man. He gives the world the iphone and revolutionized the technology sphere of our world. I have always been interested in understanding Steve Jobs and hope to learn something from this great man. Hence I have always been wanting to get a copy of “Steve Jobs” by Walter Issacson which is an autobiography of this wise man. The book was published some time back and I have always been wanting to borrow this book from one of our libraries but as this book is popular, I could hardly found this book on the bookshelves of our libraries.

How can SGX help these investors?

I have been holding two S-chip stocks, bought at good entry points. Though there are strong fundamentals to these stocks, the price of these stocks has all along been below my purchase price. This has led me to not consider S-chip stocks as stocks which I will consider to add to my portfolio a really, I believe investors here do not really appreciate S-chip stocks. The scandal of some S-chip stocks in the past also did not help much in having investors appreciate these stocks.

Loving what you do and monies will come to you?

Some of my friends have good business titles so much so that I am just a “small fry” as compared to them. But I am okay with the comparisons, as really, I believe each one of us has his or her own unique talents and if they love what they do and do what they love, monies, as we learn in many books will come naturally to them. I know the above saying may not be necessarily true as I think many people may love their jobs but there is really a “ceiling” to how much their professions can command. To this, I should add one more sentence to my above saying and which reads in complete: “Do what you love and love what you do and do it so well that monies will come naturally to you.”

The Greatest Investor in Singapore is…..

When it comes to the title of the Greatest Investor in the world, without a doubt, many will say out the name of Warren Buffet. Indeed, Warren Buffet is able to grow his investment many times more so much so that he always make it to one of the top three in the world’s richest list. If we are to ask who the Greatest Investor in Singapore is, I think many people will count Peter Lim as one of the Singaporeans qualified for this title. For truly, Peter, who was a former remisier is able to grow his wealth so much so that he is worth billions now and he has also ventured into properties and soccer clubs.

How should investors invest now?

From the way most of my friends invest, I see a trend of trading rather than investing. Trading is in today’s context, to enter into the stock markets, have a quick “turn-over” holding period and earn fast profits: it would be even better if the profits are made contra. I used to adopt this “modus operandi” however I think even for trading, one needs to plan, on what stocks to buy and when to buy. Many traders, I believe, are speculators, not knowing that when the price of a share goes higher, it is probably time for the bigger players to sell these stocks which they have on hand. I do not blame my friends or most of the retail investors to adopt this kind of strategy and not be like Warren Buffet who advocates in buying and holding a stock.

What I think of Singapore stocks now?

I am not looking closely at Singapore stocks these days as the STI says it all: the STI is consolidating around a certain level and though the STI is just a basket of thirty blue-chip stocks; the sentiments are felt on all second-tier and third-tier stocks as well. Some penny stocks see heavy trading action, but I am not one who engages in too much of speculation over these stocks.

Why are we bullish about this stock?

Global Yellow Pages stock currently trades at 3.7 cents, some 15% higher than its recent-low of 3.2 cents. Global Yellow Pages stock has earlier been consolidating at four cents. I know that I have given my bullish sentiments on this counter and I was not the only one bullish on this stock as Global Yellow Pages has also attracted a substantial shareholder in the company: a law professor to increase his stake in the company further earlier and his purchase price of the stock was four cents too. So why are we (at least the law professor and myself) bullish on this stock when its share price has been fluctuating?

Why I believe in investing towards greater financial goals?

Investing to some is risky and this has led some to not consider investing as a path towards greater financial goals. Many have also started investing but may not have fared to their expectations in their investing journey. If you ask me, investing is not easy but I still believe in investing as a path towards greater financial goals for to me, investing is a fair way towards wealth.

One good hot tip to save monies and improve your Investing IQ

Throughout this blog, my message to readers and retail investors seeking how best to improve on their investments has always been consistent, that is to read up and learn more. Be it reading financial books, learning to look at annual reports or learning technical analysis, knowledge is almost power and it is power once we learn how to apply it. At the bookstores, I have always seen very good financial titles on the bookshelves.

SGX completes investigations into trading disruption

When I read that SGX has completed the investigations into the trading disruptions, for once, I thought that the investigations pertain to the penny stocks saga involving Blumont, Asiason Capital and LionGold. However as I read further into the news, the trading disruptions are the ones pertaining to the back-up power and software updates of SGX.
