[FINAL YEAR 2017 POST] TOM K: TWO WORD FOR INVESTING IN 2018

Singapore stocks 2018
Dear readers, finally we come to the last day of Year 2017. We will be ushering in Year 2018 at the stroke of midnight later and as the usual saying goes: “How time flies”. I am not sure whether you like time to quickly progress but for myself, I would wish for time to slow down a little. Yes, as a child, I would like time to progress a little bit fast since exams and curriculum would conclude earlier and holidays would set in faster. But fast forward to today, as a middle-aged man who, like many, spend most of my waking hours at work, I would wish for more time to spend with families, spend on my personal interests and as well as to relax a little. I have to admit that after every work day, I may not be in the best state to spend time with my family as inevitably, I am tired. But I believe what matters most is to give your efforts and try.

WILL THESE SIXTEEN UNDERVALUED STOCKS BE YEAR 2018 WINNERS?

Singapore stocks 2018
Dear readers, now that the final trading day of Year 2017 is over, the next time investors trade on Singapore stocks markets, it will be the first trading day of Year 2018. Investors are searching for investment themes for Year 2018 and I believe they are busily looking at the many analyst reports doled out by financial analysts over the past week or so. Readers could read some of what I have compiled here  .

SEAH MOON MING: SSI’S CORPORATE CHIEF OF THE YEAR 2017 AWARD

Dear readers, Mr Seah Moon Ming needs no introduction. The high profile business executive has ironically gained even more high profile this year as he apologized in the capacity of SMRT Chairman over the most highly scrutinized SMRT incident to date: the SMRT tunnel flooding incident. And this SMRT tunnel flooding incident for year 2017 was not just the only incident to hit SMRT for year 2017.

It is my pleasure to award Mr Seah Moon Ming the SSI’s Corporate Chief of the Year 2017 Award. The award to Mr Seah Moon Ming was based on the SMRT Chairman’s sincerity and actions to make SMRT train rides a better one for commuters. Starting with his high profile apology to the nation, Mr Seah Moon Ming has since made ground visits to SMRT staff to understand the ground more and Mr Seah even stepped down from his CEO role at Pavilion Energy to concentrate on his Chairman job at SMRT even though the top executive power is still in the CEO Mr Desmond Kuek (Mr Seah is not an Executive Chairman). But I believe as Chair and together with SMRT Board, Mr Seah would bring SMRT to better service standards for Singapore. Whatever you are, I believe this is the time of the year to review your endeavours for Year 2017 and start planning for Year 2018.

RHB stocks recommendations
Dear readers, RHB has released its stocks picks for Year 2018. According to RHB, there are 12 stocks which investors could consider for Year 2018. The theme behind RHB’s recommended stocks is based on selective stocks selection. Hence when I saw the RHB’s list of recommended stocks, it is really fresh air for me as based on what I have been sharing so far on the recommended Singapore stocks here , many stocks analysts tend to recommend only blue-chip and STI constituent stocks; thus we keep on seeing the names of similar blue-chip stocks being tossed around. WOULD THIS BLUE-CHIP STOCK BE PRIVATISED IN YEAR 2018?

Dear readers, in the recent weeks, we had quite a number of IPOs than privatizations and M&A deals on the Singapore stocks markets. This could only be healthy for the Singapore stocks markets. Moving on to year 2018, I believe possible privatization targets are still interesting to investors since they could be a way to profits as exit offer in generally would always be priced at a premium over current valuation. Hence it is not surprising that when sussing out possible stocks buys for year 2018, some investors are also looking at possible privatisaton targets.

Some of the bigger winners this year are bank but for smaller-cap stocks as well as some other larger-cap stocks, they find themselves at the south end of the scale. Below are 12 SGX stocks which are trading at 52-weeks low. Are these stocks discount players now at these prices or value traps? STI STOCKS: AN UPDATE

Dear readers, as usual, once a week, we will be looking at the state of the STI stocks for the previous trading week, focusing just on the STI constituent stocks which are either oversold or overbought based on their RSI levels. Are you ready for the post? Lets go then!

For Overbought stocks, we have two STI stocks in this category: OCBC bank and UOB stock. I have read how DBS stock price has climbed to very high prices, but it seems like now is not a good time to enter into OCBC and UOB stock either. Banks should benefit if the US Federal Reserves will meet the expectations to increase interest rate hikes.

NO SIGNBOARD: AN UPDATE

No Signboard stock
Dear readers, NO SIGNBOARD which made its debut on the SGX last week closed at $0.295 yesterday. This is just only 5.36% of No Signboard’s IPO price of $0.28. As compared to the recent IPO debutants, the first day of No Signboard has not been impressive. But what about the recent IPO debutants’ performance?
