Dear readers, overnight, US stocks rallied on the back of trade tensions between US and EU being averted. And yesterday, Singapore stocks put up a bullish performance as the STI Index rallied 1.04% which was a performance not seen in recent sessions. Many blue-chip stocks were yesterday’s top gainers. These names included UOB, OCBC, SIA, DBS, SATS, Jardone C&C, Starhub, CityDevelopment, Capitaland, UOL, ComfortDelgo, F&N and ST Engineering. With such strong showing by the STI yesterday and the overnight trade tensions aversions between US and EU, is it time that the Singapore stocks rebounded and turn bullish?

GROW YOUR MONIES AT 0.94% PER ANNUM WITH NO LOCKDOWN PERIOD

Image
Dear readers, we are now entering into a period of higher interest rates. With interest rates heading north, I believe investors are looking into higher interest instruments to grow their monies and preferably risk-free or with low levels of risk. This is especially so as the current equities markets are volatile and also, those higher-dividends plays like the telecoms stocks and Reits may become less attractive when interest rates go north.

SINGAPORE STOCKS DOWN BY 0.85% TODAY! WHAT SHOULD INVESTORS DO NOW?

Image
Dear readers, Singapore stocks were down by around 0.80% today and with today’s showing of Singapore stocks, our local bourse actually gave back the gains the markets have chalked up in the recent trading sessions. The reason is simple: US has announced that it would impose more tariffs on China’s exports. I have shared in recent posts that the macro factors are not positive for the global stocks markets currently. In a Facebook survey conducted by Singapore Stocks Investing on 9 Jul 2018 (which would close in 5 days: to participate in this survey, please visit this 9 July 2018 post on Singapore Stocks Investing Facebook page), more than 56% of the poll respondents already supported the view that the STI would head south to 3,000. This has all along been my position for the STI thus far. Any dollar cost averaging to be done should be done at where the STI becomes attractive once again and a below 3,000 mark could be the start for some investors to dollar-cost-average-buy the Sing

SINGAPORE STOCKS MARKETS: WHY WE ARE BACK TO YEAR 2016?

Not yet, says Tom K (myself).

Image
Dear readers, Singapore Savings Bond (Aug 2018 tranche) opened for application on 2 Jul 2018 and below are the average return per year for the first ten years. For comparison, I also included in () below the average return per year for the July 2018 Singapore Savings Bond tranche. On first glance, the Aug 2018 Singapore Savings Bond seem to offer a higher interest since Year 1 interest rate is 1.78% compared to 1.72% for the Jul 2018 tranche. But if one is to look at the average return at Year 10 of the Aug tranche of the Singapore Savings Bond, that is where the Aug 2018 average returns seems to fall short in general.
