IS IT TIME TO INVEST BACK IN THE STOCKS MARKETS NOW?

Dear readers, the US stocks managed to inch back a little after last week’s market corrections. If you were to ask me whether as a result of US stocks markets performance last Friday, one should consider entering into the Singapore stocks markets now to bargain hunt for some good stocks at good prices, I would think that it is probably too early to see whether the stocks markets correction is over already.
This is in because that one must understand that a trend is a trend. For example, within a general downtrend, there will still exist days when the stock markets go up and then the possibility that it will go down on the next day; but overall, the stocks markets are trending lower.

As of now, I do not think it is bullish yet to go back into the stocks markets or at the very least, I do not think the bearish market sentiment is over already. Yesterday, I chanced upon a movement called “MINIMALISM SINGAPORE” or “MINIMALIST SINGAPORE” on local television. GST TO INCREASE TO 9%, WHAT SHOULD YOU DO NOW?

Dear readers, yes, finally, the government announced that it would increase GST to 9% between 2021 and 2025 as per the Budget Speech delivered by Finance Minister yesterday. While many of us would have already picked up the clues prior to the Budget Speech of an increased GST, I think not many of us would know the exact quantum of GST increase as well as the timeframe of implementation. Hence it is with great relief that we all know that yes GST will increase by 2 percentage points and that the implementation will only start between year 2021 and 2025.

WILL SEMBCORP MARINE STOCK BE PRIVATISED?

Dear readers, Sembcorp Industries released its new strategy for the future last week arising from the completion of the much awaited Strategic Review of the Group. The highlight of Sembcorp’s new strategy is the repositioning of its utilities business as an integrated energy player. And other than this highlight, there is no inkling from the new strategy on what some of the investors like myself are looking for: the possibility of the privatization of Sembcorp Marine, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries since there is no any mention of this.
