$12 MILLION HONGBAO TOTO: WON BUT NOT WON, WHAT HAPPENED?

Dear readers, yesterday is “Yuan Xiao Jie”, the fifteen day of the Chinese Lunar New Year and the official last day of Chinese Lunar New Year 2018. To celebrate the festival, I went home and had a good meal with my family. And at the same time, I was reminded that yesterday was also the day for the Chinese Lunar New Year HongBao TOTO draw with the top prize of $12 million dollars. Having earlier forgotten to buy TOTO (I make it a point to buy the annual HongBao TOTO every year), I rushed down to the nearest Singapore Pools outlet after dinner and bought a combination of entries (made up of both QuickPick and my own selection). I paid $22 and quickly went home to await the results.
Though I am rather frugal in nature and $22 seems to me still a lot, I think like what many would have reckon, spending some monies for a shot at $12 million is not a bad idea at all. If I were to win $12 million, I would like many stop working in my current job but I would not have retired completely. Instead I would continue to work but this time round pursue my very own interests since monies would no longer be a problem. Thus it was with my excitement and hope that I visited the Singapore Pool website at 2130 hrs sharp yesterday (the results time of the TOTO). The website was down or busy and results were not available (inevitably) after only some time.

Finally, I got to check my numbers. Did I win at all? Yes, I won! I won three numbers! And like the previous experience, where I won the same set of three numbers for which I queued up at a Singapore Pools outlet to redeem my prize, only to be told that I did not win, I still did not win any monies at all! Why is it so?

I won 3 numbers for which one number is the additional number, so I did not win any numbers at all since to win, we need three ordinary numbers!

Nevertheless, congrats to the two winners pocketing the share amount of $6 million each as well as to the slightly more than 700,000 winners pocketing $10 prize dollars each (to this latter group, though the winning amount is small, at least you know that you did better than Tom K who did not win any monies at all and have to record the $22 as another expenditure item in my expenditure tracking spreadsheet).
