Dear readers, yesterday it was reported that SIAS had raised questions about Ms Olivia Lum’s remuneration as CEO of Hyflux amid financial troubles at the company. It was reported that Ms Olivia had received over S$60 million in dividends from her 34% ordinary shareholding in Hyflux and that she earned between S$0.75m to S$1m in year 2017. The reports had me curious about just how much is Ms Olivia’s net worth just from her shareholdings in Hyflux alone?

Based on SGX website, the current market cap of Hyflux is $164.91 million based on a total outstanding number of 785.28 million shares trading at yesterday’s closing price of $0.21 per share. Ms Olivia has a 34.05% shareholding in Hyflux and hence that translates into a $56.15 million for Ms Olivia based on her current shareholding in Hyflux alone.

Hyflux once traded at much higher prices. For example, in Feb 2014, Hyflux share traded at $1.26 per share which is six times the current share price. Assuming Ms Olivia held the same 34.05% share in Hyflux then, that would have translated into a six times her current net worth in Hyflux at S$336.90 million.

Ms Olivia had make it to the list of Singapore’s 40 Richest several times before. For example, in year 2011, she was ranked 27 with a net worth of USD $460millon .
