CRUDE PALM OIL STOCKS: LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Dear readers, do you have crude palm oil stocks e.g. Wilmar and Golden Agriculture stock in your investment portfolio? If you have, and if you have bought these crude palm oil stocks (especially Golden Agriculture stock), you would have seen these stocks trading at low prices for some years now.

This is not surprising as crude palm oil industry is afterall a commodity industry and there are commodity cycles which investors have to respect.
But recently, I read of an article featuring the latest developments surrounding crude palm oil stocks and possibly affecting their stock prices. Do you know what factor is this? Well it is none other than some measurement of what some others call “Sustainability”. Examples, is the crude palm oil plantations managed in a sustainable way? Is land clearing for the palm trees done in a sustainable way? So on and so forth.

One should not underestimate and brush off sustainability as something that is non-related to the core business. In some countries, there are groups that call for the boycott of non-sustainable products and these could have implications for crude palm oil stocks in terms of markets.
