HAS THE SANTA CLAUS RALLY COMMENCED?

Dear readers, coming out from the G20 summit, both US and China Presidents seem to have reached a truce for now in relation to the trade tensions between their two countries. A parallel development has been the increase in oil prices due to some oil producers signaling cuts in their oil production. All these factors have caused the US and regional stock markets indices to go higher. And Singapore stocks markets have followed this trend.
As a result, some in the investing circle have said that the Santa Claus Rally has commenced for year 2018 earlier this year! Definition-wise, a Santa Claus Rally describes sustained increases in the stock price that occurs in the last week of December through the first two trading days in January.

However, investors should note that Santa Claus Rally is much like the saying “Sell in May and Go Away”. All these phenomena, though backed somewhat by some history before may not always be applicable for each trading year.
